Therapy or Life Coaching?

Do you need Therapy or Life Coaching?

Therapy

Talk therapy is not just “talking about your problems” – it is also working toward solutions. Most of today’s talk therapy is focused on your current thoughts, feelings, and life issues. Examining the past can help explain things in your life, but focusing on the present can help you cope with current issues and prepare for the future. Therapy aims to help individuals adopt a realistically optimistic view of coping, understand the role of emotions more effectively, and creatively develop an action plan geared to reduce psychological distress and enhance well-being.

Life coaching can sometimes also be appropriate as a compliment to your therapy, but it is not a replacement for therapy or medications. Please ask your mental health professional if life coaching sessions could also help in addition to your therapy.

Life Coaching

You should choose Life Coaching if you feel you need to make some changes in your life, but you are feeling stuck. You need someone to genuinely listen, provide direction, to help you make action plans, and to provide support. You need help to overcome the barriers and remove obstacles that are keeping your from moving forward with your goals. You need some assistance and guidance with setting some goals and deciding on a direction for making some life changes. You need encouragement, a plan, resources, and specific actions along the way. (Please remember – Life coaching is not therapy.)

Life coaching deals with the present, the future, and is results oriented. If you are looking for results, then life coaching is right for you.
